'Phases' live performance, 2019, Centrespace Bristol
A live saxophone performance as part of Foam group exhibition May 2019. The saxophone performance was amplified with delay and reverb through 6 speakers surrounding the audience around the perimeter of the space with an automated surround sound pan.
These drawings and photographs illustrate a surround sound installation prototype called a Sound-Hood. From initial concept drawings through construction and gallery installation. This was exhibited as part of Foam Exhibition at Centrespace Gallery, Bristol in May 2019.
The Sound-Hood is designed so that the audio track begins when a person steps inside and then stops with fade out when they leave the hood.
To enable this to happen there is an sensor in the top of the hood which is connected to an Arduino circuit board. When someone is sensed a signal is sent to the computer to play the audio track which it does through a 7.1 surround sound AV receiver which the six speakers in the hood are connected.
Original composition and performance with video shot and edited by Andrew Brooks. Each piece has identical video of starling murmurations shot in Somerset January 2019 with different soundtracks.
